We don't claim that you can learn a language well in a few hours; of course you need sustained effort over a period – plus a learning system that makes the best use of your precious time.
TheChinese Horizon method brings you the best of teacher instruction, combined with e-learning for practice and retention – the first time that this highly effective, state-of-the-art technique has been applied to Mandarin training. Both in the classroom and online we follow a fully communicative approach, so providing a complete Chinese learning solution to learners at all levels. Our curriculum is designed according to the HSK Level Standard and Grammar Levels issued by the Chinese Ministry of Education
Chinese Horizon offers three different ways of studying, or course models, for different groups of learners:
Model I (online only)
Study by yourself - the most economical and flexible way (only US$23 per month). You can
also buy live teacher lessons for support as and when you need them
Model II (in a CH school and with online course support)
Study with a teacher in a CH school, practice and review online, - the most cost- and time- effective way. The cost of tuition varies from country to country.
Model III (intensive homestay in Beijing, homestay optional)
Dedicate 4-, 8- or 12 weeks to immersing yourself in the ideal Chinese learning environment. Cost from about US$1580 (including homestay) for 4 weeks
All you need to study with Chinese Horizon is a sound-equipped PC with an Internet connection (preferably broadband) and your determination. All the learning material is online, and it is available to all students at all times – no limits, no exclusions, no extra charges.

How does the Chinese Horizon method work ? |

The keys to successfully learning a language are:
i) clear, systematic instruction at the right level, and
ii) lots and lots of practice (consciously and naturally).
The Chinese Horizon method is based upon these simple and timeless principles:
i) Instruction
- Learn in the context of real-life situations, through lifelike dialogues
- New language is introduced systematically, at a pace at which you can absorb it
- Use the online Placement Test (free!) to find the right level at which to start
- Learn to recognize and write characters in the context of the dialogues (optional)
ii) Practice
- Practice the building-blocks of the language (structures and vocabulary) separately, then learn to put them together
- Practice listening and understanding extensively online between one teacher lesson and another
- Practice your pronunciation by recording and comparing your own voice
- Practice reading and writing characters through lively animations (optional)
- And you also get music and pictures to relax between lessons!

| How easy is it to follow the online program? |

Very simple indeed: it's completely linear, and each exercise or activity has full instructions and explanations in English, plus translations too wherever necessary. At the end of each one you're free to go back and revise an earlier exercise if you want to, or you can just go on to the next one.
Each exercise comes with a recommendation for how much time to spend on it, and there are frequent checkpoints (tests) with instant feedback, to help you monitor your own progress.
Almost all the exercises have an audio soundtrack by native Chinese speakers, and you can record your own voice to check your pronunciation at any time.
Each lesson follows a systematic and logical sequence:
LISTEN > LEARN > ( READ for the advanced course) > PRACTISE > REVIEW
There are several linked activities in each section, and after each lesson is finished you just go on to the next lesson.
And finally, if you get confused at any point, you can email a question to one of our teaching staff at any point, directly from the activity you're working on.

| Is it possible to learn without a teacher? |

What happens to people who are studying purely online?
You will achieve much more than those studying with books and CDs or tapes only: the CH method has the following advantages
- "It's fully interactive using all your senses, unlike books and CDs. Learning research shows that the more of the brain's faculties (visual, auditory, tactile, cognitive) are involved in learning, the more successful the learning is.
